The only winner Zakir Hossain Pathan died five days ago. He was Corona positive (Covid-19). He is receiving treatment at the Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital.
In addition to the fear of death in Corona, Zakir Hossain’s wife and children are concerned about how to spend the days to come. Zakir Hossain lived with his family in Keraniganj. In ancient Dhaka, Zakir Hossain earned a meager salary by working in a store that sold various products, including rice and legumes. There is nothing to say about savings. Although he had little ancestral property in Chandpur, he did not build a house. For his wife, two daughters, and two sons, he is even more horrified than Corona, wondering what the days to come will be like.
Zakir Hossain’s daughter, Fahmida Pathan, spoke on the phone with the help of a doctor on duty in Kurmitola. This college girl is the eldest of Zakir Hossain’s children. Fahmida also returned from the Kurmitola Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was in the ICU for a few hours with various complications, such as difficulty breathing.
On Monday, Fahmida Pathan and her mother Shahnaz Begum spoke on the phone. Shahnaz Begum said that she and her 18-year-old daughter Fahmida, her 14-year-old son Mujahid and her 12-year-old daughter Jannatul were positive. Only the crown of Junaid, a two-year-old son, has been negative. For a few days, Shahnaz Begum did not allow Junaid to approach her. Junaid’s crown is not in good physical condition due to lack of attention. He did not eat food in the hands of others, except his mother. Junaid’s grandparents came and took him to Chandpur last night.
Shahnaz Begum’s physical condition is not so good. He said that sometimes there are various complications, such as difficulty breathing. On the one hand, there is the idea of running a family, on the other hand, there is the idea of when the condition of a child admitted to a hospital worsens. The girl returned from the ICU right in front of her eyes. He said: I see darkness in my eyes. Only God knows how to move forward. Fortunately I am receiving good treatment in this hospital, there is no cost. I have no one, so I feel that God has sent angels to my family on the pretext of a doctor.
When Zakir Hossain became more ill, her daughter Fahmida Pathan ran alone to different hospitals, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He complained that his father had died without receiving any medical treatment. Zakir Hossain died in the ICU of the Dhaka Medical School Hospital.
Fahmida said: ‘With the salary my father received, somehow we could continue eating and studying. No parent now. Mother is sick. Me and other brothers are also sick. I do not know what awaits us in the coming days. We don’t even know how it will go. Hospital doctors are investigating us. He lived in a small rented house in Keraniganj. I don’t know how long I can stay there.
“The family’s financial situation is not good,” Brigadier General Jamil Ahmed, director of the Kurmitola General Hospital, said by phone. Almost all family members are positive. Not only this family, but all Corona patients receive free food and treatment. While the family is in the hospital, there is nothing to worry about, including medical treatment. We are next to the family. But the problem is, how will the family survive after being discharged from the hospital? The family has a long way to go.
Haji Muslim, the owner of the store where Zakir Hossain Pathan used to work, was also hospitalized with Kovid-19. He himself has returned from the door of death. He said on the phone that since he started a new life, he will stay with Zakir Hossain’s family as long as he can.
