The education administration is considering two options to overcome the loss of long vacations due to the corona virus. Any of these will be implemented with expert advice. At the moment, there are instructions for the interested party to assess the damage. One of the two options is to cancel all vacations after the opening of the educational institution at the end of Corona and complete the program at the scheduled time. The other is to take the annual exam and publish the results in February of next year (2021) instead of December of the 2020 academic year.

A senior official from the Ministry of Education told our time that classes that have been left out until the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays can be compensated. Because, Roger had a long vacation in the annual curriculum. Previously, classes were closed for 15-20 days from March 16 to April 25 due to coronary holidays (excluding weekly and scheduled holidays). These classes can be adjusted with additional classes, reducing vacations before the academic year. Therefore, the curriculum does not have to be shortened, the academic year does not have to be extended next year. However, if June-July or more closes due to the crown, major changes must be made to the educational calendar.

Curriculum experts from the National Board of Curriculum and Textbooks (NCTB) said they were against reducing the curriculum. If necessary, they are in favor of completing the study program in February of next year. According to experts, the curriculum for each class prepares to acquire the prescribed skills and knowledge of that class and pass them on to the next class. If the study program is reduced, it will not be possible to acquire the prescribed knowledge. This will disrupt the main objective of education. Also, if students finish the program quickly, they will not be able to retain it and the results of many exams will also be bad. So they are in favor of extending the academic year for two months.

NCTB President Professor Narayan Chandra Saha said several meetings had been held to decide the matter. The Director General of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, the President of the Dhaka Board of Education and other senior officials were also present. Basically there are two proposals to finish the student study program. But we won’t be able to move forward unless we have an idea of when the Corona outbreak will end and when the school-college will open. There will be more meetings about it.

He said that if the school reopened in August or September, the NCTB had proposed extending the current academic year to February of next year. Take other exams, including annual exams in February. This will allow students to read and learn well and move on to the next class. And the next academic year will start from March 2021. Reduce various types of vacations in the next academic year and end the academic year in 10 months.

But alternative proposals have also arrived. It has been said that all exams will be completed in 2020. It calls for shortening the study program and reducing the optional license. However, the NCTB will present a final proposal to the Ministry of Education if it discovers when the educational institution can be opened.

The chairman of an educational board said the ministry had sought an update on how many classes had been canceled so far due to Corona. We are working on this. Based on these facts, we will have to make a decision later.

Mahbub Hossain, secretary of the department of secondary and higher education in the ministry of education, said: “We have taken various plans to compensate for unscheduled leave.” The matter will be implemented in consultation with experts.

All educational institutions have been closed since March 18 to prevent coronavirus infection. The holidays will last until May 30. Then it will be decided to open or close the educational institution depending on the situation in Corona.
