In the past 24 hours, 26 people, including the director of Northern Medical College, Dr. Anisur Rahman, have died in the crown unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Medical sources said four of the dead, including a woman, tested positive for coronavirus. The rest died of coronavirus symptoms. From last Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon, 28 people died in the Corona unit. So far, 69 people have died in the Corona unit since May 2. 17 of them were infected with a crown. The rest died of symptoms, medical sources said. On the other hand, there have been reports of various irregularities in the treatment of the crown unit of the Dhaka Medical School Hospital. Coronavirus patients have no indication of how they need to be treated or cared for. Patients and their families have complained that the doctors, nurses, officials and employees of the department in question are benevolently continuing their activities. The patient and family members have to sit for hours for various tests starting with seeing the doctor. Dhaka Medical’s Corona unit is experiencing mismanagement everywhere.
Alauddin Al Azad, deputy director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said 28 people had died in the past 24 hours in the crown unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Among them, three men and one woman tested positive for coronavirus. The rest died of crown symptoms. A total of 69 people, both male and female, died at the Corona Unit hospital, which started on May 2, until 5 p.m. of Monday. 17 of them are infected with a crown.
He added that the bodies of those who died of coronavirus symptoms were handed over to their relatives. And the bodies of those who died in Corona positive are delivered to their relatives in stages.
A nurse who worked at Dhaka Medical’s Corona Unit, who did not want to be named, said there were no rules and regulations at the unit. He is doing what he remembers. No one is listening. This unit is going through many labor crises. Irregularities and mismanagement everywhere
He further alleged that the ward masters, staff and external ambulance drivers in question were trading jointly with relatives of patients who were dying of infection or symptoms of the crown. Another Dhaka Medical ward teacher said 69 patients died in 10 days in the corona unit. At other times, not as many patients died in 6 months. God only knows what kind of treatment there is!
On the other hand, Abdullah Al Mamun, the journalist for the Alo newspaper, said that he has been suffering from fever, cold and cough for several days. His illness is not diminishing in any way. With symptoms of coronavirus, Mamun went to Dhaka Medical around 11 am last Saturday to be admitted to the corona unit. Going there was her new experience. He saw that the patients in the Corona unit were so careless that it was unimaginable. At one point, he decided not to stay in the hospital, even if he died. According to the decision, he came home from the hospital that day. When he got home, he shared his experience of the DMK Corona unit situation through social media. These are some of his experiences:
‘Assalamu Alaikum. I know everyone is fine. Thank you for your constant research since I went to the hospital. But to tell the truth, if he had known such an experience, he would have died at home but would not have gone to the hospital. After going to the hospital and introducing himself to Ward Master Riaz Bhai, he arranged for admission, but it was 3:30 pm when the general admission process ended.
At 3:30 pm he headed to the third floor through the door and gate. After going to the third floor, they asked him to go to the doctor and show him the file. Later I went to the doctor and stood in line for an hour and showed him the file. So Aslam went to the nurse again. When asked which room I would stay in, the nurse showed me a room and told me to go to bed, but after going to that room I saw that there was no empty bed. I came again and told the nurse. The nurse told me that the bed would be empty after a while. In other words, there are 10 to 12 beds in that room, the bed will be empty when one or two patients die for a while. The nurse’s words soon came true. Two people died while waiting at the door and at the door for about half an hour. Then the nurse told me that one of the two men who had died went to bed. The most surprising thing is that he has made a bed into a bed and today there will be no sheets. The condition of another bed is the same. No leaves will be given there either. I have to stay like this.
They’ll give me a clean sheet tomorrow. Even the beds were not sprayed with any disinfectant. Then I said to the nurse, how can I stay in that bed where there are no sheets? So the nurses said we have nothing to do. Sheets cannot be released until they arrive. So it must be tonight. I was finally forced to go home from that bed, which was soaking wet. I do not know if any other journalist has faced such a reality. We do not recommend at least any other journalist to join Dhaka Medical. Good luck to you all. There was much more to write. I couldn’t due to stress on the body all day. I will write many details in the future.
When Dipur, the nurse in charge of Dhaka Medical’s burn unit, was contacted in this regard, she said it was a very sad incident. Steps will be taken to find out who did what and why. They have everything else, including sheets.
When the matter was reported to the Dhaka Brigade Director General, Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, he ordered Dipu, the nurse in charge of the hospital’s burn unit, to take immediate action. After that no further action was taken. In this way, day after day, month after month.
