Dhaka: The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI), the body that formulates and regulates product quality, has banned 43 product brands including French fries, Danish, Suresh, Promi and Sal Pubali.

Surveillance operations were carried out on the open market and the products were purchased and tested in the BSTI laboratory and were found to be below the Bangladesh standard (BDS).

At the same time, companies were ordered to refrain from selling and distributing commercial advertisements to interested manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers and to withdraw the sold products from the market without any further approval, subsequently improving the quality of these products.

In a press release on Monday (May 11), the BSTI said it had recently banned 18 more products for being of inferior quality.

The BSTI collects products from the open market and conducts annual surveillance campaigns throughout the year to verify if companies are producing quality products by obtaining BSTI quality certificates.

On the occasion of the month of Ramadan, 521 samples of various products were collected through the BSTI surveillance team. Of the 251 sample test reports received in the first phase, 16 products were found to be substandard and had already been banned and published in the media.

Of the remaining 260 sample test reports, 43 samples were found to be substandard and manufacturers of substandard or unsuccessful products were asked to report to BSTI to improve the quality of substandard products. At the same time, inferior products sold in batches / production dates / batches were ordered to be recalled as described.
