Prime Minister Jafrullah Chowdhury, founder and administrator of the public health center, said that every journalist must pay at least 20,000 rupees to have the strength to survive and tell the truth.
Jafrullah Chowdhury made the remarks at a protest rally organized by the Asian Society of Journalists in front of the National Press Club on Sunday demanding arrest, harassment, mass dismissal and payment of wages and allowances.
Addressing the Prime Minister, Jafrullah Chowdhury further said: ‘Your father was surrounded by politicians. And you are surrounded by military and civil bureaucrats. In this situation in the country, those who want to provide accurate information are journalists. He added: ‘Journalists make cartoons, criticize those they love. So why are you afraid of this satire?
Former President of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists-BFUZ and BNP Vice President Shawkat Mahmud, BFUJ Secretary General M Abdullah, Former Secretary General of the National Press Club Syed Abdal Ahmed, former Joint Secretary Ilias Khan and the Attorney Abed Reza also spoke at the demonstration.
The leaders of various journalist organizations were also present at the rally, which was chaired by Zakir Hossain, secretary-general of the organizing body and Didarul Alam, organizing secretary of the DUJ.
Shawkat Mahmud said the government is indiscriminately torturing the media and journalists who criticize the government. He demanded the withdrawal of all cases against journalists and the release of those arrested.
M Abdullah said: “I urge the proprietary authorities to stop the reduction of journalists, provide security for journalists and pay all arrears.”
Syed Abdal Ahmed said that government repression and torture have not stopped even during this Crown. One after another, journalists are being harassed with false cases. Many are being arrested. Which is very sad.
Elias Khan asked everyone to unite for the realization of the rights of journalists.
