Scoundrels have snatched the Tk 55 lakh from mobile banking by hitting two brothers with canes in Jatrabari, the capital. During the kidnapping, they fired target shots and fled. The incident took place around 11 am on Sunday.

The police officer in charge of Jatrabari (OC) Mazharul Islam told NTV Online in the evening. “A case was also filed at the police station alleging theft,” he said.

The robbers were identified as Saiful Islam Sabuj, 35, and Rafiqul Islam Mukul, 30. They are both agents of the Dutch-Bengali mobile banking.

Mazharul Islam said: “The two men were going to deposit Tk 55.69 lakh at Motijheel Bank on a motorcycle around 11 p.m. today.” While they were taking the money, six thieves on three motorcycles stopped them, beat them with iron rods and seized the bags of money that belonged to the two brothers. The thieves then fired target shots and fled. Two brothers were injured in the incident.

The Jatrabari OC Mazharul Islam Police Station said they were later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical School Hospital for treatment. A case has been filed at the Jatrabari Police Station accusing unidentified people in the incident. Hopefully, I can get the kidnappers under the law in a day or two.
