Prince Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Saud, son of the late Saudi King Abdullah, has been detained after being arrested. The New York-based international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) has made such a claim.

Prince Faisal was in family self-isolation northeast of the capital Riyadh due to the coronavirus, HRW reported, citing sources close to the Saudi royal family. He was arrested on March 26 by the country’s security forces.

Qatar-based media Al Jazeera In early 2016, Prince Faisal was arrested at a luxury hotel in Riyadh during a so-called anti-corruption operation. He was later released.

So far, however, the Saudi authorities have not commented on the HRW report.

In March, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered an offensive against the highest-ranking members of the royal family and members of the security forces. Prince Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, an influential member of the Saudi royal family and King Salman’s younger brother, and former Crown Prince and former Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef were also arrested in the arrests.

Observers say the country’s crown prince, Mohammed Salman, launched a campaign to clear the way to power after the death of his father, Saudi King Salman. Arrests and repressions have been going on since he became Crown Prince.

In 2016, journalist Jamal Khashoggi, known as a critic of the Saudi monarchy, was allegedly killed on his order. Hundreds of human rights activists and members of the royal family were also arrested on his order.
