Members of a teenage gang in Kompaniganj Upazila in Noakhali have been accused of beating and beating a young man to death. The incident took place in Rampur Union Room No. 2 on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Sheikh Zahid. He was Hafez in the Koran. He also worked as an electrician. His friend Omar Farooq was also injured in the incident. Police arrested five people in connection with the attack.
Police and some locals said that a few days ago, members of a local youth gang in Rampur Union Room No. 2 got involved in a dispute with other teens in the area over a soccer game. Tensions between the two sides continued for two to three days. Sheikh Zahid and Omar Farooq were beaten and hacked by gang members around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Later, Zahid, seriously injured, was taken to the 250-bed General Hospital in Noakhali around 10 pm and the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Zahid’s uncle said. Sohag told Prothom Alo that other teens in the same area were involved in a dispute with members of a local youth gang over a soccer game. But his nephew was not in favor. On Friday night, her nephew took a walk down the back street of the house with two classmates. At that time, the teens, who were involved in a dispute over the game, suddenly attacked them.
Companiganj police officer in charge (OC) said. Arifur Rahman told Prothom Alo that members of a teenage gang in the area beat a young man named Sheikh Zahid to death over a dispute over a soccer game and the money owed to him. Another person was injured in the incident. He has been admitted to the hospital.
The OC further said that in the incident, police raided last night and arrested five members of the teenage gang accused of being involved in Zahid’s murder. The case is being prepared at the police station. The body of the deceased Zahid is in the morgue of the Noakhali Sadar Hospital. After the autopsy, her body will be released to her family.
