Due to the blockade to prevent coronavirus transmission in Hili, Dinajpur, poor and defenseless people who have been working hard have been left without jobs because they cannot leave their homes and go to work. In such a situation, the Hakimpur Foundation, made up of students studying in different schools and colleges in the area, has been at their side. They have opened a store for only 1 taka, from where poor and defenseless people can buy food at once with a taka. These destitute people have welcomed the initiative of a meal for a taka.
Members of the Hakimpur Foundation are selling products among the poor and defenseless people living in certain areas, such as Balurchar Slum, Churipatti and Adivasipara, checkpoints at the Hili border, bringing this one-taka mobile store to those areas and ensuring social distance. For a taka, each receives 1 kg of rice, 250 grams of onion, 250 grams of potato, puishak and sweet squash. In addition to this, the foundation has carried out various programs, including the distribution of food and items from iftar.
Golzar Hossain and Nazma Begum, Rahela Bewa and Nazma Begum from the Hili border said: “We used to earn a living working in the port and in different houses.” But I have been unable to leave the house for some time today due to the coronavirus. So I can’t go to work. I am in trouble with my family because I have no income. I am suffering from food shortages with my children. Although the municipality provides food, it is insufficient compared to demand. In such a situation, a one-time meal for a rupee has become a blessing to us. We buy food from this store every day for a taka. With which I make a living cooking food with my children. Every afternoon in the slums they bring these products in vans and we are queuing up with 1 taka to buy products from that store. Giving them this store has been very good for poor and helpless people like us.
In this regard, said the president of the Hakimpur Foundation, Mehedi Hasan Sohag, a voluntary organization called the Hakimpur Foundation was formed with 70 students studying in different schools and colleges in the country, including Hili. In order to prevent coronavirus infection, we have carried out hand disinfection, soap and food distribution activities among people since March 26 with the financial support of our members. Later, I have been carrying out these activities continuously with the help of several people, including the Mayor of the City Jamil Hossain Chalanta. With the start of Ramadan recently, Iftar items are distributed among different people. At the same time, the administration prohibits people from leaving their homes as everything is closed due to the ongoing corona virus. Unable to go to work in such a situation, poor and helpless low-income people are suffering. They are in food crisis. Our Hakimpur Foundation has taken the initiative to provide unique food to some people for a taka thinking of those people.
He added that there are poor, defenseless and distressed people in the areas, including several Healy slums. We take these products in vans to these slums and towns and sell these products to each other for 1 taka. We will continue this activity until the situation in Corona returns to normal.
