Maulana Saad Kandhalvi was charged with negligent death on Thursday.
When the topic of the meeting was published in the middle of last month, the headquarters of World Tabligh Jamaat was closed with the participation of thousands of followers from all over the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
A police spokesman said Saad Kandhalvi was first accused of violating the ban on the meeting. But now he has also been charged with wrongful death.
He said that the Delhi police had issued a statement against the Tabligh chief. Now, Section 304 of the Penal Code has been added.
According to this section, death or bodily harm that can cause death can result in imprisonment for a maximum of 10 years if the act is committed with the intention of killing or causing harm.
Maulana Saad’s lawyer said he would join the investigation as soon as the period of isolation ended.
