The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), which has been working to identify door-to-door coronaviruses from the start, will no longer collect samples. From now on, the work will be done by the Department of Health. The way that IEDCR was initially collecting samples will now be done through other laboratories and institutes in coordination with the Department of Health. IEDCDC will only verify a certain number of samples sent by these organizations for quality control.
IEDCR adviser Dr. Mushtaq Hossain confirmed the matter to the Bangla Tribune. “From now on, IEDCR will only investigate,” he told the Bengali Tribune.
Habibur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Department of Health and head of Media Cell at Covid-19 also confirmed the matter.
Habibur Rahman told the Bengali Tribune: ‘Collecting samples is a burden for many tests. They will do what is best for them. However, there are many who cannot go anywhere, I would request to have the opportunity to go and bring your samples.
Meanwhile, IEDCR adviser Dr. Mushtaq Hossain told the Bengali Tribune: “It is not the organization’s job to collect samples to diagnose patients, but the organization collects samples as part of epidemiological surveillance. But there are now opportunities for testing at many institutions, including different hospitals. Because the Department of Health has assumed responsibility for the sample tests, the sample test will be performed at other laboratories.
These works have been redesigned. Sample collection and testing will be done mainly by another laboratory and IEDCR will control the quality.
In this regard, Dr. Mushtaq Hossain said: ‘It is also being delayed to give results due to field level sample collection and quality control. IEDCR cannot do all the work collecting samples. Quality control is also becoming an issue. But the organization’s workforce has not increased; Some volunteers, various organizations, the government has also given some people to the deputation, but that is not enough.
He added: ‘Some scientific research work is pending. Other countries are reviewing many informative charts about Kovid, but we can’t do much. IEDCR will analyze all the information of the identified patients and publish them.
