Police arrested a young Hindu man named Ranichandra Manidas (23) accused of calling Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) an atheist and using obscene language on Facebook social media in Singair, Manikganj.
He was arrested at noon on Sunday (May 3). The arrested is Ranichandra Manidas, son of Ajitrachandra Manidas from the village of Chandanpur in the Jamirta union of the upazila and a student of the Devendra College of the Manikganj Government. A case has been brought against three young Hindus, including Ranichandra, for insulting religious sentiments and under the Digital Security Law.
According to police and local sources, on April 24, Ranichandra Manidas published obscene language on Facebook identification Roni Sattyarathi with his name and image, claiming that Nabi Karim (S.) was an atheist. In this post, Sanjay Sarkar and Positive Electron commented on two Hindu youth Nabi Karim (s) from Facebook ID in vulgar language. In fact, some local Muslim youth protested on Facebook with the screenshot of the post.
The incident sparked a storm of protests on Facebook. Local religious leaders, including Upazila Imam Parishad President Hafeez Joynal Abedin, Secretary General Mufti Mizanur Rahman and Joint Secretary Maulana Masudur Rahman Ayubi, demanded exemplary punishment by arresting the three accused Hindu youths.
At one stage, in collaboration with UP local president Abdul Halim Raju, the police arrested Roni Sattyarathi, Facebook administrator ID Ranichandra Manidas from their area on Sunday afternoon (May 3).
Police inspector (OC investigation) said. Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that Ranichandra Manidas was arrested on a charge of insulting Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook social media.
Alamgir Hossain, joint coordinator of the Upazila Juba League, has filed a case against three young Hindus, including Ranichandra Manidas, for insulting religious sentiments and the Digital Security Law. Attempts are being made to arrest the other two defendants in the case.
