The Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection (DIFE) of the Ministry of Labor issued the directive on Saturday. The department has sent copies of the instructions to the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Industrial Police, and other government departments for implementation.

The directive, signed by DIFE Inspector General Shivnath Roy, said: “If any worker needs to come to Dhaka to work at the factory, they should take it with the factory ID card and show it to the authorities concerned.” Otherwise, they will not be allowed to enter the doors and places of Dhaka.

The directive further says that garment workers have been discouraged from coming to Dhaka from abroad or from anywhere until further notice.

Part of the clothing factory, which was closed due to the risk of crown infection, was reopened on April 26. Previously, BGMEA and BKMEA, an association of owners of the garment industry, announced that the factory would be opened step by step in accordance with hygiene standards. For the time being, production will be limited to workers stationed near the factory. Both organizations have prohibited workers from coming from everywhere. Even then, workers from outside Dhaka began to return to the industrial area from April 25.

When asked about the directive, DIFE Inspector General Shivnath Roy told Prothom Alo that the directive was issued to prevent garment workers from returning to Dhaka at the risk of a crown.
