Bangladesh and India will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the end of that meeting, 9 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) can be signed. Several MoUs are known to be finalized. Previously, four memorandums of understanding were signed at the government level.
Diplomatic sources said that possible memorandums of understanding include the conservation of elephants in the border areas, the Barisal sanitation plant, community development projects, cooperation in the energy sector.
It is known that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be formally invited to visit Bangladesh in March next year.
This year’s summit will discuss water sharing, cooperation to tackle the earthquake, border killings, trade, electricity, and the Rohingya crisis. Bangladesh will propose a framework to solve the water exchange problems of Manu, Muhuri, Gomti, Dharla, Dudhkumar, Feni and Teesta and will convene a meeting of the Joint River Commission (JRC) next month. The Surma-Kushiyara project will also be discussed at the ITC meeting.
It is known that Bangladesh is waiting to see the implementation of the guarantee from the signing of the Teesta water distribution agreement. India has promised Bangladesh in this regard. India’s cooperation to confront Kavid will be important at this year’s summit. India has assured Bangladesh that it will vaccinate its product. In addition, Oxford has signed an agreement with the Serum Institute of India to purchase 30 million vaccines.
Diplomatic sources say that Bangladesh looks forward to India’s cooperation in addressing the Rohingya crisis. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. India will begin its term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council next month. Bangladesh hopes that India will submit a resolution to the UN Security Council to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

Bangladesh hopes that India’s initiative will remove tariffs and non-tariff barriers to trade. Apart from this, the meeting will also discuss the rapid completion of the projects under execution under the Indian loan.
Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chilahati-Haldibari rail link starting from tomorrow’s meeting. India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, Vikram Doraiswamy, said in a webinar on Tuesday that the route would be reopened.
