The Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered snake venom worth around Rs 9 million Tk. Two people have been arrested on charges of trafficking and smuggling this poison.
A CID team arrested Mamun Talukder, 51, and his accomplice Mamun, 33, in a raid in the Kaliakair area of Gazipur on Wednesday night. At that time two large cabinets and six glass containers containing snake venom were recovered.
The CID said there was no legalization of the sale of snake venom in Bangladesh. Traffickers have been using Bangladesh as a route to smuggle snake venom.
The CID Additional Deputy Inspector General (Additional DIG) Sheikh Mohammad said this at a press conference held at the CID headquarters in Malibagh, the capital, on Thursday afternoon. Rezaul Haider. He said that on September 18, a team from the CID Dhaka Metro arrested some members of a gang involved in the sale and smuggling of snake venom from the Basan Thana area of Gazipur.
A case was subsequently filed against him. During the investigation of the case, the CID learned, based on secret information, that there are several other large-scale trafficking networks. After this, Mamun Talukder and his accomplice Mamun, the main ringleader of the snake venom smuggling ring, were arrested last night.
