8 arrested in Bakshiganj

After arresting 6 thieves in Bakshiganj, the police recovered an iron box weighing around 10 pounds along with Tk 5 lakh 72 thousand in cash.

The ark was recovered from Suruzzaman’s home in Charkauria Daripara in the municipal city on Wednesday (December 16) morning.

It is known that on December 13, a 200-year-old iron chest was stolen from Jabed Ali’s house in Charkauria Daripara village in Bakshiganj upazila. The incident took place in Bakshiganj municipal mayor Nazrul Islam Saudagar, the son of Nurul Islam from Daripara Liton village, the son of Fakir Sujan, the son of Hebul Miah, Fakir Ali, the son of Dhanu Miah, Sahi Uddin, Mumtaz’s son, Rubel, Abul Hasan’s son, Rahman Ali, Shukkur Ali’s son, Billal, and Haibar’s son. Rubel arrested Mia and turned her over to the police. According to the detainees’ confessions, the police recovered the stolen box from Suruzzaman’s home in Daripara village on Wednesday morning.

The ark was subsequently opened in the presence of UN Executive Magistrate Munmun Jahan Liza, Municipal Mayor Nazrul Islam Saudagar and journalists at the police station premises. Inside the ark were 5 lakh 72 lakhs, some old coins and property titles.

The officer in charge of the Bakshiganj (OC) police station, Shafiqul Islam Samrat, confirmed the incident and said the money had been seized. Other goods have been returned to the owner of the chest. Action will be taken based on the court’s decision regarding the money.
