In the Dhaka-16 constituency by-elections, only 14.17 percent of the votes were cast. The total number of voters in this constituency is 5 lakh 6 thousand 17 people, of which the total number of votes is only 61 thousand 618 votes. In other words, 6% of citizens did not turn out to vote.
Awami League candidate Habib Hasan won the Dhaka-17 by-elections on Thursday night with just 65,720 votes. Its closest rival, the BNP, SM Jahangir Hossain, obtained 5,389 votes.
Results signed by returning officer GM Sahatab Uddin further revealed that Nasir Uddin Sarkar of the Jatiya Party won 325 votes in the elections. Shahidullah obtained 126 votes and the candidate for the Bangladesh Congress, Umar Farooq, obtained 91 votes. Additionally, Muhibullah Bahar (PDP) obtained 6 votes with Bagh Marka. The total number of votes cast was just 61,618.
According to sources from the Election Commission, the constituency of Dhaka-17 consists of districts 1, 16, 43 to 54 of Dhaka North City and the airport area. The seat was vacated after the death of member of the Awami League presidium, defender Sahara Khatun.
