Nilphamari: 63-year-old boyfriend Abdullah Al Naser has taken his 18-year-old girlfriend home with a Tk 6 lakh fine in Kishoreganj of Nilphamari.
The local UP president has collected a fine of Tk 6 lakh from Abdullah Al Nasser for giving him child marriage and a low dowry.
The incident took place in the Nitai union of Kishoreganj upazila de Nilphamari. Abdullah Al Nasser, 63, married a 16-year-old girl named Mim Akter from the union a few days ago. Groom Abdullah Al Nasser is the owner of the Hajj-Umrah Al Nasser Aviation Service Training Center. A lakh of 25 lakhs was fixed for the marriage.
When the incident became known, local people arrested the boyfriend Nasser. Later, in the presence of the president of the Nituzi Union Parishad (UP) Farooquzzaman Farooq and local influencers, the matter was resolved by an arbitration meeting for Tk 6 lakh and the groom was released.
According to local sources, Abdullah Al Naser from Mirpur North Paikpara in Dhaka sent people for the Hajj. Because of this, he became acquainted with Atiqul Islam, a resident of the Baravita Union of Kishoreganj Upazila. Nasser has separated from his two previous wives. He asked Atiq to find a girl to remarry. Atiq proposed to Mim Akhter, 18, the granddaughter of Abdul Matin from Kholahati village in Nitai Union. Since the girl’s grandfather, Abdul Matin, was poor, she married the old man on October 26 with a cash gift of Tk 1.25 lakh. On October 26, when the old man came to visit the house of his father-in-law Abdul Matin in a private car with the girl, some onlookers stopped the old man along with the private car. Later, the president of the Nituzi Union, Farooquzzaman Farooq, the leader of BCL Suruj Mia, son of Mubarak Ali from the same village, Sona Mia, Abul Kalam Kaltu Mia from the same village and several other influential people held a nightly arbitration meeting in the house of BCL leader Suruj. A fine of Tk 6 lakh was set for the crime of child marriage. President Farooq Standard Bank Limited, Nilphamari branch on his account (account number – 5011300002020, check page number CAA 0000465) left the old man with a check. Later, Nasser went home with the girlfriend.
Mim Akter is known to be the daughter of Mahubar Mia and Luna Begum from the Paglatari Phulbari village of Nitai Union. While the girl’s parents worked in a garment factory in Dhaka, she studied at Nana Abdul Matin’s home in Kholahati village. The girl is a freshman from Kishoreganj Business Management Institute College. According to the birth certificate, the girl’s date of birth is 11-22-2003. Birth registration number 20036384569033623. The date of issuance of the birth certificate is 04-10-18.
Showing the marriage certificate, Abdullah Al Naser said: “I married the girl according to Islamic Sharia.”
However, although the cabinet letter has the signatures of the bride, groom, and other witnesses, the name and signature are not on the marriage registry. Speaking with the president of the Nituzi Union, Farooquzzaman Farooq, he said that Abdullah Al Naser is an influential person. He married the girl with a dowry of only one lakh 25 lakhs. A check for Tk 6 lakh has been taken from him for child marriage and due to his low denomination. I have money here. That will be given to the girl soon.
Kishoreganj Police Officer in Charge (CO) Abdul Awal said: “I sent the police to the scene after receiving the news.” But the president of the Nituzi Union, Farooquzzaman Farooq, wanted to solve the problem and the police left.
