The 63 expatriates returning to Vietnam and Qatar were arrested under Section 54 on Tuesday morning after a 14-day quarantine. They were later sent to jail through the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Turag Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Mottakin told NTV Online today.
Nurul Mottakin said: “At the end of the 14-day quarantine, 71 people returning to Vietnam and two expatriates returning to Qatar were arrested.” There are accusations against him of being involved in various crimes while they were in Vietnam and Qatar.
The OC said: ‘His crime was reported from Vietnam. That is why 63 people have been arrested and sent to court as suspects (Article 54). Earlier, after returning to the country, they were kept in quarantine for 14 days at Uttara Diabari camp due to coronavirus conditions. Then his quarantine ended on Monday.
Nurul Mottakin said: ‘While they were abroad, they were involved in various crimes. There they were in prison. From there they were later sent to Bangladesh. The police have not yet found out what kind of crime they committed. Therefore, they were sent to court as suspects under Section 54. Then the court sent them to jail. In addition, it is checking whether there are complaints against them in Bangladesh.
