There is a saying “fate soon opens up”. That really is. Many things can change in a moment or in a day. Like the life of Rafiqul, a fisherman from Shyamnagar, Satkhira has changed. In one day, he sold the valuable lauvola fish found in the net for five lakh 40 lakhs. Expressing his feelings after selling the fish, Rafiqul said: “Luck has been lost in being able to sell fish for so much money at once.”
Rafiqul Islam (49) is the name of the prisoner whose fate changed in Lauvola. He is a resident of Tengrakhali village on the Shyamnagar coast. He makes a living fishing in the Rayamangal River adjacent to the Sundarbans.
Fisherman Rafiqul Islam said the tide reached the river around noon on Thursday. With that tide I would fish for nets. When the net began to rise out of the water in Bhatatan, 128 lauvola fish appeared. A fish weighs seven to 20 kg. Its total weight is about 1,151 kg. Today, Friday, he sold it at 590 Tk per kg for 540,000 Tk.
Among marine fish, lauvola fish is quite delicious to eat. In terms of taste, the value of this fish is slightly higher. Prices are naturally high due to demand.
On the other hand, the main reason for the high price is that the fish gills are exported to different countries, including India. Depending on the grade, the price of Lauvola fish per kg is 25 to 30 lakhs. In different countries of the world, including India, valuable cosmetics and life-saving drugs are made from the gills of the lauvola fish.
Nur Hossain Gazi, a fish trader from Banshipur village in upazila, said he bought the fish after receiving the news. Later, it was sold by Haruna Rashid, the owner of Medina Fish at the Sonar Mor location, for Rs 620,000.
