2,918 road slabs will be required for the construction of the Padma Bridge. As of October 31, more than 1,175 road slabs have been installed. In addition, 2,959 railway floors will be installed. Of these, more than 1,648 have been installed so far.
Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2016 with the installation of the first span at posts 37 and 38.
Then 35 openings have been placed one by one. Accepted at a cost of Taka 30,193.39 crore, the actual project progress is 90.50 percent and the financial progress is 6.03 percent. The actual progress of the river management work is 75 percent. Until October 31 of this year, 23 thousand 696.24 crore taka have been spent. Based on the revised date, all bridge works will be completed in June 2021.
China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another Chinese company, is working on managing the river. The main shape of this multipurpose bridge, 6.15 km long, will be of two floors. The Padma Bridge structure is being built with concrete and steel. Vehicles will circulate on the upper part of the bridge and trains on the lower part.
