So far, the police have arrested 10 people.

It is known that last Thursday afternoon at the Burimari Central Jame Mosque, Abu Yunus spread rumors of insults to the Koran. After beating Sahidunnabi Jewel to death, the body was reduced to ashes.

Jewel’s cousin Saiful Alam, Burimari Union Parishad President Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat, and Patgram (SI) Deputy Police Inspector Sahajan Ali filed three separate cases at Patgram Police Station. A two-member investigation team from the National Human Rights Commission and a three-member investigation team comprised of the Deputy Commissioner, CID and DB Police are working closely to uncover the culprits. The RAB, the BGB and a large number of police patrols continue in Burimari and Patgram upazilas.

Police arrested five people, including the manager of Burimari’s central mosque, Jobed Ali, at midnight Sunday. The detainees were sent to jail through court Monday afternoon. Those arrested have been identified as Jobed Ali, 61, son of Jahar Uddin from Rahmanpur village at the junction of Patgram and Khadem from Burimari Central Mosque, Mehedi Hasan Raju, 19, son of Jahedul Islam of the Kamarerhat village in Burimari junction and Anwar Hossain, 55, son of Dhane Ali from Namajitari village in Burimari junction. Manikuzzaman Manik, 28, son of Sahidar Rahman from Ufarmara Telipara village in Burimari junction, and 18-year-old Merajul Islam alias Neymar, son of Amir Hossain from Namajitari village in Burimari junction.

The Amli court judge, Chief Judge Ferdousi Begum, set the date for the hearing on the request for remand on Monday and ordered the defendants sent to jail. According to judicial sources, the wise court postponed the day of the hearing from Monday to Tuesday (November 3).
