In early November 5, the government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Serum Institute of India and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited of Bangladesh to purchase 30 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine. The government signed the purchase agreement in the next step of signing the MoU.
At the time, Health Minister Zahid Malek said that under the agreement, Bangladesh would get a total of 30 million vaccines at a cost of Rs 5 million in six months.
“Oxford has signed the documents for the purchase of 30 million doses of vaccines. It will be sent to the Serum Institute. They will get it before December 15th.
“I hope to receive the vaccine sometime in January. However, prior to this, approval from the World Health Organization will be required. There is also the matter of approval from the country’s Department of Drug Administration. Hopefully, the approval will be obtained soon. “
Present on the occasion were the Director General of the Health Department, Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, the Additional Director General of the Department Prof Nasima Sultana and Prof Mirzadi Sebrina Flora, Managing Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Nazmul Hasan.
Each person should take two doses of this Oxford vaccine. This three crore dose of vaccine can be administered to one crore of people in Bangladesh. Each dose of tick will cost five dollars or 425 rupees. The government has allocated Tk 635 crore 8 lakh 50 thousand for the purchase of this vaccine. These vaccines will be given to people for free.
