Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque said the list of freedom fighters will be released on December 16. We were unable to publish the list due to Corona. The list of voters will be published in November and elections to the Liberation War Parliament will be held in January.
He further said that 5 to 6 percent of freedom fighters are likely to be eliminated after the selection process. Some new freedom fighters may be on the list. Those who are removed from the list will have an opportunity to appeal. Such a commission has been formed.
The minister responded to a question from reporters ahead of a meeting to review the activities and expenses of the Mujibnagar Liberation War Memorial Center project at the Liberation War Memorial Complex in Mujibnagar, Meherpur on Tuesday.
Speaking as the main guest at the discussion meeting, he said, Mujibnagar is our land of pilgrimage. In the post-independence period, Bangabandhu gave Mujibnagar written instructions to evaluate. We are working towards that goal. During the Khaleda Zia government, the establishment of the Mujibnagar project with a sector map of Bangladesh in Mujibnagar during the liberation war was poor. Most of the sculptures there, including Bangabandhu and four leaders, have been distorted.
Chaired by Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Munsur Alam Khan, the minister further said that the first government of Bangladesh was sworn in on April 16, 1971 at Mujibnagar Amrakan. That is why this Amrakanan has become a part of history since that day. Also, the age of the garden is 125 years. This garden should be preserved for two reasons.
Respecting the government that was sworn in in Mujibnagar in the absence of Bangabandhu, he further said: “It is the sincerest wish of our Prime Minister to renew Mujibnagar.” The prime minister has allocated one billion rupees in Mujibnagar. Design work continues accordingly. New international standard sculptures and installations have been redesigned. It will be sent to the Planning Commission within 10 days.
Before the meeting, the minister paid tribute to the Mujibnagar Memorial with flowers.
The Minister of State for Public Administration, Farhad Hossain MP, joined the meeting on Virtual Zoom and said: “We are moving forward to build a digital Bangladesh.” Consideration is being given to whether a new theater can be added to Mujibnagar’s project. People who chanted the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ on April 17, 1971 at the inaugural function of the first Bangladeshi government. That scene also needs to be improved.
He said the Mujibnagar Memorial Project should highlight international significance through sculptures of the leaders of the freedom movement, including Bangabandhu. So that tourists can visit the project and learn about the history of the independence of Bangladesh.
The Minister of State for Culture, KM Khalid, said that the current government is culturally friendly. The government has already awarded financial grants to 12,000 cultural workers.
The Secretary of the Liberation War Ministry, Tapan Kanti Ghosh, the head of the establishment department, Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan, the Khulna divisional commissioner, among others, spoke at the meeting. Mu Anwar Hossain Hawlader, Meherpur Police Superintendent SM Murad Ali, Mujibnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and local leaders of the Awami League.
