A 45-year-old UP president has created quite a stir by marrying a ninth-grade student. For the third time, he was widely criticized for getting married. The incident took place in the Buraburi union of Ulipur upazila district. Even after the government declared child marriage free, many questions arise in people’s minds about how a UP president does child marriage.

According to local sources, Bunburi UP President Abu Taleb Sarkar caught the attention of Bonnie Akhter, a Bachchu Mia ninth grade student, a disabled student from the union’s Dolan village. He then seduced the student in various ways and formed a love story with her and continued to show financial temptation to the impoverished girl’s family. At one point last Sunday night, members of the girl’s family married her to the president.

In his personal life, the president of the UP, Abu Taleb Sarkar, has a wife and a university student. However, even though he was married once before, it did not last long. A photo of the president’s third wedding was posted on Facebook social media, drawing widespread criticism in the area.

Meanwhile, an elected president of the UP has publicly married a child, but the administration has not taken any legal action, prompting an angry reaction in the minds of the people.

UP President Abu Taleb tried to contact the government, but was unsuccessful.

Ashraful Alam Russell, Deputy Commissioner (Land) and Acting Officer for Upazila Nibarhi, said: “Since the child marriage took place, there is no opportunity to wear a mobile shelter.” However, action will be taken if a written complaint is received in this regard.
