New books are not available at Barisal without receipt of payment of the admission fee.
Although schools have been closed since March 16 last year due to the crown, fees for 42 sectors must be calculated at the beginning of the year to get admission and new books. Although there are strict instructions from the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi) in this regard, no schools follow them. The arbitrariness of the steering committee and principals has led to fears that the education of many students will be paralyzed.
A notice signed by the Director General of Mausi on November 16 last year indicated that no fee can be charged other than tuition at private secondary education institutions. If any fees for assignment, tiffin, readmission, library, science library, journal, and development are accepted, you are instructed to refund or adjust the tuition fee.
It is further mentioned that if the situation in Corona is not normal in early 2021, no fees will be charged for tiffin, readmission, library, science lab, magazine, development sector. However, early last year Barisal schools were charged 3,000 rupees for admission. After that, it collects tuition throughout the year. The money was collected at the end of December of last year by informing the parents of the students. A fee of Tk 3,000 is being charged again for admission in the new year. When visiting schools of 1,500 to 2,000 students, it has been seen that no school is admitting students except new admissions of Tk 3,000, 2,590. Although some schools charge Tk 1,500 for readmission, most schools charge Tk 3,000.
Although the crown disaster has reduced incomes for low- and middle-income people, many students are at risk of dropping out of school due to the lack of grants to enroll their children in schools. The money is collected by showing 42 sectors for salary allocation and development set by the management committee. However, due to the disaster in Corona, the income of many merchants and employees has been reduced several times. When visiting the schools of more students in the Barisal City Corporation area on Saturday, it was seen that parents are concerned.
It has been discovered that, in addition to the public schools, there are fifty schools in the metropolis of Barisal. Halima Khatun Girls ‘Secondary School, Jagadbish Swaraswat Girls’ School, Udayan Secondary School, and the city’s Oxford Mission Schools admit about 2,000 students from Classes III to X each year. Depending on the school, each student has to pay at least Tk 2,500 to Tk 5,000 for admission to the next class. The school has announced that school books must be brought along with the receipt of payment. Because if you are in default, you will not be given a new book. Also, if you want to get new books, you must send old books to school.
The chairman of the Barisal Conscious Citizens Committee (SNAC), the eminent educator Professor Shah Sajeda told Ittefaq that everyone has suffered in the context of Corona. As a result, students from destitute families are dropping out of school, especially girls. As a result of the unethical decision of the management committee of some schools, up to 3,000 rupees are being raised for admission. He requested the intervention of those interested in the matter.
In this regard, the director of Jagadbish Swarasat Vidyalaya was on leave for two months, but Sandhya Chakraborty, the office assistant who collected the money, said that she collected it according to the director’s instructions. Parents have to pay Rs 2,590 to be admitted to this school. SM Fakhruzzaman, principal of Halima Khatun Girls’ High School, told some 1,700 students in the city that they are taking Tk 1,500 in the context of the crown instead of Tk 3,000 for the new year. However, in the context of many applications, it is being done more or less for free. Since February of last year, only per session fees have been charged.
In this regard, the superiors of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi) of Barisal suggested talking among themselves. However, said regional deputy director Mausi Barisal (additional responsibilities). Anwar Hossain said schools have been asked to refrain from collecting money outside of Mausi’s notice. He said action would be taken if specific evidence was found.
Bithika Sarkar, Sadar Upazila’s secondary education officer, said that all notifications received from Mausi were sent to schools. Even after that, he will go to schools on Sunday to see related topics.
