40 injured in confrontation with Imam-Muazzin by feeding

Two people were shot dead and at least 40 people, including women and children, were injured in the attack on the roof of Sunamganj while feeding Imam-Muazzin. The attack took place in the village of Muktarpur in the Dolarbazar junction of Bad-Juma upazila on Friday.

Upon receiving the news of the attack, police personnel from the Zahidpur Outpost at Chhatak Police Station immediately arrived on the scene and managed to control the situation.

According to local sources, from Friday to Friday, the imam and muezzin from the Muktarpur village mosque were detained by the villagers when they wanted to eat at Raich Ali’s home in the same village. Kalaraja, Abdul Khalik and Abdul Alim Gang from the same village had a discussion with Islam Uddin on this issue. Due to this incident, extreme tension prevailed in the mosque premises and at one point there was an incident of hand-to-hand fighting.

As soon as he got to the house after leaving the mosque, the opponents attacked the house of Islam Uddin’s uncle, Montaz Ali, with native weapons and bird hunting guns. At that moment he threw bricks and tin on the tin of the house and caused a great deal of vandalism.

Two people were shot and at least 40 people, including women and children, were injured in the incident, police said. Among the injured, 18 seriously injured have been admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and other injured have been admitted to the local hospital.

SI Palash Das, in charge of the Zahidpur Police Post, said police personnel rushed to the scene upon learning of the clash. Police are currently on the scene.

Chhatak, OC Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Nazim Uddin said no written complaint has been received so far. Currently, the situation is calm.
