According to police, ASI Ashek Elahi from the Bandarbazar outpost admitted a young man named Raihan Uddin (34) to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at 7.40am on Sunday morning with serious injuries. Raihan died in hospital at 7:50 a.m. while undergoing treatment.
Raihan Uddin is the son of the late Rafiqul Islam of Neharipara, Akhalia, Sylhet. He has a three-month-old daughter. He used to work in a doctor’s office at the city’s Rikabibazar stadium market.
Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Inspector (investigation) Soumen Maitra said that Tahmina Akter Tanni, wife of the murdered Raihan, had brought a murder case to the Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night.
The case alleges that her husband was detained at the Bandarbazar outpost and demanded Tk 10,000 and tortured to death without receiving the required money, Soumen said.
In the case, it is alleged that there were bruises on various parts of the body and the nails were removed.
However, the police claimed that Raihan was a kidnapper after his death.
The fired SI Abkar Hossain told reporters that he was beaten to death while carrying out a robbery in an area of the city’s castle.
