4 intercity trains canceled in Habiganj train accident

Four intercity trains on the Sylhet route were canceled due to the derailment of four bogies, including the engine of a train carrying oil in the area of ​​the Shahjibazar train station in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj. As a result, the passengers were unable to reach the destination and suffered immensely.

The canceled trains are Paharika bound for Chittagong from Sylhet, Parabat Express bound for Dhaka and Paharika bound for Sylhet from Chittagong and Jayantika Express from Dhaka.

Mushfiqur Hossain, assistant stationmaster for the Shayestaganj railway crossing, confirmed the information at 8 p.m. Sunday and said he had been informed verbally even though he had not received a written notification to cancel the train ride.

Mushfiqur Hossain also said that all the passengers who had collected advance tickets from Shayestaganj to Chittagong and Dhaka had returned the tickets at the respective counters and obtained the money.

Earlier in the day, four bogies, including the engine of a train carrying oil bound for Sylhet, left Akhaura around 12 noon. Two bogies capsized and two bogies derailed.

Meanwhile, the assistant railway (route) engineer said. Saiful Islam said there is a possibility to run the train on the alternate line at midnight once the rescue work of the oil-carrying train is completed at the crash site. However, the repair of the damaged rail line will take two to three days.
