Security forces fired on pro-democracy protesters in Myanmar again. At least 36 people were killed when gunmen opened fire on protesters in various cities across the country on Wednesday (March 3).

Yesterday was the deadliest day since the military coup in the country last month. Foreign ministers from neighboring Southeast Asian countries on Tuesday called on the Myanmar junta government to exercise restraint. The following day, the security forces opened fire, causing casualties. The board has also brought charges against six journalists, including an Associated Press photographer.

“Just today (Wednesday) 38 people died, the largest bloodshed since the coup,” said Christine Schreiner Bergner. At least 50 people lost their lives after the military coup. He called on the United Nations to take immediate action against the junta.

On February 1, Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi overthrew the elected government and seized power. Protests have been taking place in the streets since the coup to restore democracy.
On Tuesday, police have shot dead at least 30 protesters so far. International pressure on the government of the junta increases every day.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis has called on the Myanmar armed forces to go beyond repression and prioritize the resolution of the crisis through dialogue. Previously, he had repeatedly called for the release of all political prisoners, including Suu Kyi.

Citing eyewitnesses and health workers, the media reported that four people had been shot dead by security forces in the central city of Myingin. Two people lost their lives in Mandalay, the second largest city. Tear gas, rubber bullets and members of the security forces fired new shots. At least 16 people were injured in Myingin. And in the town of Monia, two lifeguards saw the bodies of the two being taken away. Demonstrations were held daily in Yangon. The death of a person has been reported in the largest city in the country. In addition to these cities, there have been protests in the states of China, Kachin and Shan, and in the cities of Sagaing and Daoi.

In addition to the use of force against protesters, arrests have continued. The police dispersed the protesters in Yangon after nearly 300 people were arrested. According to the watchdog, Assistance for Political Prisoners (APP), more than 1,200 people have been detained since the military coup. Of these, 900 are still in prison or have been charged.
