37 people have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in connection with the explosion of air conditioning (AC) at Baitus Salam Jame Mosque in the West Talla de Fatulla area in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. They are being treated in the emergency department.
The inspector in charge of the Dhaka medical police camp, Bachchu Mia of the Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, said late Friday that 38 people have so far been admitted to the Narayanganj incident. All were burned from head to toe. Doctors have started treatment.
Coordinator of the National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery Sheikh Hasina. Samanta Lal Sen said that so far 38 people are receiving treatment from the emergency department in the Narayanganj incident. Doctors from the emergency department and other doctors from different hospital wards also joined in the treatment of burn victims. It is estimated that 35 to 60 percent of the body has been burned.
Meanwhile, there are multiple opinions among the locals about the explosion incident. Some say the gas exploded under the mosque’s VT. Some say that the air conditioning (AC) equipment in the mosque exploded.
The fire service and the police initially thought there was a gas leak from the gas pipeline inside the mosque. Subsequently, if there is an electrical short circuit or any other type of spark, a powerful explosion will occur and a fire will start.
Locals complain that the area has had gas leak problems for a long time. The matter was reported to the gas authorities but no solution was found. Locals believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak inside the mosque. The gas bubbles inside after giving water to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Fatullah Police Station Aslam Hossain said that six ACs of the mosque exploded and caught fire at the same time during Esha prayers. At that time more than a hundred devotees were praying. So far, three people have been killed and 40 injured in the incident. The deceased were identified as Delwar Hossain, 45, Musalli Ibrahim, 40, and Jewel, 6. The officer of the Special Police Section (DI One) SM Iqbal confirmed the identities of the dead on Saturday morning.
