Three defendants in case of rape

Three defendants have testified in court after pleading guilty to raping a housewife in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet. The police presented Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Ainuddin and Rajan in court at 1pm on Saturday (October 3) after a five-day pretrial detention. About two hours later, the three men were taken to a separate court to record their confessions. After the deposition, they were sent to jail around 8:30 pm by court order.

In their statements made in court, the three defendants confessed to the violation and gave information on the role of the car. Rajan testified before Metropolitan Additional Chief Justice Ziadur Rahman, Ainuddin before Metropolitan Second Judge Saifur Rahman and Roni before Metropolitan Second Judge Sharmin Khanam Nilar.

Police sources said in a statement to the court, the defendants said they tried to flee after the rape. At that moment they began to destroy the signs of the private car. The housewife was also beaten prior to the rape, they said in a statement. At the same time, they also informed the court about the role that the housewife played during the encounter, rape and looting.

Amul Kumar Chowdhury, Senior Deputy Commissioner for the Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said three defendants had pleaded guilty to raping a housewife in the MC College dorm. They also gave information on who was behind the incident from the beginning.

Earlier on Friday, the main defendants in the case, Saifur Rahman, Arjun Lashkar and Rabiul Islam, gave confessional statements in court.

Meanwhile, two other defendants in the case, Tarekul Islam Tareq and Mahfuzur Rahman, were presented at the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon and their DNA samples were collected. Both are in preventive detention for five days. They are expected to appear in court on Sunday (October 4).

A police officer involved in the investigation said the defendant gave different information while in pre-trial detention. At this moment one also blames the other. As the case was highly disputed and sensitive, the police led Osmani Medical to collect DNA samples to make sure they were involved in the rape without leaving any gaps in the case. However, the police initially confirmed that all those arrested were directly and indirectly involved in the rape.
