Two people were killed in a traffic accident in Naogaon’s Manda upazila. Five others were injured. The accident occurred on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway around 5.30am on Friday morning when two trucks carrying stones and straw collided head-on in the upazila ghat ferry area.
Meanwhile, a woman named Arifa Begum (55) died in a traffic accident in Sadar upazila. The woman was killed when a truck struck her on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway in the Doctor Mor area of Sadar upazila around 8 am today.
The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Chandra Barman, 38, the son of Sarat Chandra Barman from the village of Angaria in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram and Dinesh Barman, 38, the son of Deenbandhu Barman from the same village. The injured were rushed to Manda Upazila Health Complex and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
According to some eyewitnesses and police sources, a truck carrying straw from Bhurungamari Upazila was heading to Machmail Bazar in Bagmara Upazila of Rajshahi. Along the way, on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway, they arrived in front of the Jonaki Hotel in the Manda upazila ghat ferry area around 5.30 am and collided head-on with a truck carrying stones in the opposite direction. They both died on the spot. Five others, including the truck driver, were injured in the incident. The injured have been identified as Shipon Ali, 24, from the village of Chhotakhatamari in Bhurungamari, Rafiqul Islam, 35, from the village of Angaria, Gouranga Chandra Barman, 35, from the same village, Bachchu Mia, 35 , from Naleya village and Abdul Jalil, 40, from Khalgram in Rajshahi’s Bagmara upazila. Members of the fire unit rescued the five injured and admitted them first to the Manda Upazila Health Complex. Later, three of them were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
