Locals arrested three people, including BCL district vice president Ruhul Amin, and handed them over to the police as they were on their way to snatch a Tk 6 lakh and Tk 7 lakh check from a businessman in Pabna.
They were arrested at Brihaspatipur Bazar of Bhulbaria Union in Santhia upazila district on Sunday noon. The officer in charge of the Ataikula Nasirul Islam Police Station confirmed the information.
Nasirul Islam said that on Sunday afternoon, Sirajul Islam, a businessman from the Santhia area, was to deposit five lakh eighty-five thousand eight hundred rupees in cash and a check for seven lakh rupees at the Ataikula branch of the Agrani Bank. At that time, Ruhul Amin and his followers stabbed the businessman into the crowd in the Brihaspatipur Bazar area and attempted to escape by snatching money and checks. Later, the locals arrested Ruhul and his three accomplices and turned them over to the police.
The OC further said that the detainees were taken to the Ataikula police station. Four lakh twenty thousand rupees have been recovered from them. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining money.
Victim businessman Sirajul has presented a case at the Ataikula police station.
The BCL general secretary of the Pabna district, Tajul Islam, called the arrest of the BCL vice president on theft charges sad.
BCL District Secretary General Tajul Islam said: “The organization will not be held responsible for anyone’s personal crime.” In this case, if he is found to be involved in a crime, he will be permanently expelled from the Chhatra League. ‘
Those arrested are Ruhul Amin (28), Rana Haque (26) and Shipon Hossain (25), vice president of the BCL district of Pabna.
