The number of police officers infected with the coronavirus increases day by day. More than half of them are in the Dhaka metropolis, where 116 people have been reported to have been infected with a crown, including female police officers and general staff, and the police have confirmed that 752 police officers have been quarantined in the whole country.
Police headquarters officials say police members patrol regularly to ensure coronavirus infection, ensure social distance across the country, and monitor the closure situation. In addition to this, members of the police are doing various jobs to monitor the law and order situation, including spraying disinfectants on the streets, helping workers and taking them to the hospital for treatment. While doing these things, they are unknowingly being attacked by Corona.
According to information received from the police headquarters, after the Dhaka metropolis, members of the Gazipur metropolitan police have been more affected by the crown. In this metropolis, 26 people have been affected by Corona. Then there is Gopalganj. The number of victims in this district is 16. In addition, 16 people have been affected in the Narayanganj district. Only three people have been affected in the Chittagong metropolis. However, 200 police officers were quarantined in Chittagong.
Among the victims in the Dhaka metropolis are an additional deputy commissioner, three deputy inspectors, one sergeant, five assistant deputy inspectors, seven general members and the rest being officers. There are also six women on this list. 96 of them are in the Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, while the rest stay at home with a crown. The first crown was captured on April 11 in the Dhaka metropolis. After that, 116 people became infected in 12 days. As a result, an average of 10 police officers are being attacked in Dhaka every day.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told Prothom Alo that all the police members who were attacked came out to carry out their duties. They became infected by inadvertently moving around people. He urged police personnel to be more vigilant while on duty, adding that steps were taken from the outset to protect police personnel. They are getting stronger now.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials said those at risk of infection are being quickly separated from the police. 100 beds have been arranged for them on the temporary police lines in Demra. Apart from this, quarantine and isolation arrangements have also been made at Rajarbagh Guest House and Mirpur Guest House.
Deputy Police Inspector General (Media) Sohail Rana said more than two lakhs of police personnel in the country were working to prevent the spread of the crown directly from the field. They have been provided with the greatest possible protection. There is still a lot of demand. Even then, members of the police have to knowingly risk their lives to protect the common man while going to work. In each job they have to get very close to people. So they are getting infected. However, adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of affected police personnel as directed by the Prime Minister.
