SP Kumar said: ‘The tunnel is deep in a forest with a barbed wire fence at the top. The BSF has already been asked to close the Indian mouth of the tunnel.

Dilwar said there are at least 73 natural holes along the 92-kilometer-long border in Karimganj. Of these, penetration occurs through approximately 22.

In May 2016, another similar tunnel was found in Madanpur, Karimganj district, through which cattle were smuggled.
