2 lakh five thousand crore ADP is final

The Planning Commission has finalized the draft Annual Development Program (ADP) worth Rs 25,145 million for the next financial year (2020-21). The approval came at an extended meeting chaired by Planning Minister MA Mannan in the Planning Commission meeting room on Tuesday. Final approval of the new ADP will be given later at the NEC meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

However, sources from the planning ministry said the NEC meeting may not be held this time to ensure social distance due to the coronavirus. In this case, a summary of the ADP from the Ministry of Planning will be sent to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will give him final approval as his executive power.

The sources further said that Tk 9,046 crore may be allocated in the ADP for autonomous organizations. In that case, the total amount of ADP will be two lakh 14.611 crore.

In speaking with senior officials, this year’s ADP is known to have emphasized transportation, education, health, and agriculture.

They also say that Tk 1.34.843 crore for ADP will come from government coffers and Tk 80.501 crore for rupee will come from foreign aid.

One thousand 746 approved projects are being added to the ADP for the next fiscal year 2020-21. However, with the exception of autonomous organizations, there will be one thousand 56.

In the revised ADP for the current financial year, the number of projects, excluding autonomous organizations, was 1,844. As a result, 156 development projects are being cut in the new financial year.

According to sources, the ADP for the next financial year has allocated Tk 52.1 billion rupees for the transport sector, Tk 24.6 billion rupees for the electricity sector, Tk 23.4 billion rupees for the education sector, Tk 13.033 million rupees for the health sector and Tk 8,424 crore for the agricultural sector.

In the current financial year (2019-20), the amount of ADP was two lakh two thousand 721 crore. It was later revised to Rs.1 lakh 92.921 crore. Source: UNB
