All 17 Kushtia police officers have been fired on various charges, including evidence of drug use in a drug test. Of these, eight were fired for drug use and eight for other crimes, including murder. However, the police did not reveal the names of those looted. Apart from this, the investigation continues, including the departmental case against two more people. According to the report, eight members of the police regularly used phencidyl, yaba and other drugs during doping tests. Upon receiving the report, the Police Superintendent took departmental actions against him. These drug users were working in different police stations and camps.
According to the police, based on various complaints, in the last year and a half, 12 policemen were examined for drugs and eight of them had drugs. A departmental case has been filed against him for possession of yaba and cannabis. The charges against the other two have not been substantiated. Among those fired for drugs are two deputy inspectors (SI), two assistant deputy inspectors (ASI) and four officers. The other eight were fired on various charges including murder, presentation of a false freedom fighter certificate and marriage before employment.
Kushtia Police Superintendent SM Tanvir Arafat said that the first SI was tested in May 2019 after learning of drug use. A case was filed against him on July 26 of the same year. The last time the police filed a complaint against a sergeant working at Kushtia Traffic was on September 28 for the same crime. The policemen were transferred to different districts along with departmental cases, since their drug use was proven. Subsequently, in the last year and a half, 18 police officers were fired, including eight who were convicted of drug use and another eight for other crimes.
