A suicide bomber has killed at least 16 people at an educational institution in the Afghan capital, Kabul. At least 56 people were injured in the incident Saturday night. The state of several of them is critical. The BBC says hundreds of students study at a private educational institution in the Shiite-majority area of Kabul.
IS claimed responsibility for the attack on Saturday night and posted it on social media. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
The country’s Interior Minister Tariq Aryan said the assailants tried to enter the school with explosives on their bodies. But when stopped on the way, it exploded. Another bomb blast in Kabul on Friday killed at least nine people. However, the government blamed the Taliban. But the Taliban deny it. The ISO has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
Twelve students were killed and 24 injured in a government airstrike on a madrasah near the northern Afghan city of Talukan on Thursday. Despite the Afghan government’s claim, 12 Taliban fighters were killed in the attack. The airstrikes came after a Taliban attack in the province killed more than 30 members of the Afghan security forces.
There have been multiple attacks between the Afghan government and the Islamic State militant group in recent weeks as talks between the US government and the Taliban began on a peace deal in Afghanistan. Large numbers of members of the security forces and civilians died.
