More than 150 onion trucks belonging to Healy land port traders are trapped at the border as the Indian government has stopped onion exports. These trucks, which were tendered until last Sunday, are stuck in India and are now beginning to rot. Traders are concerned about onions stuck in the port parking lot for five days. However, exporters, on the other hand, say they will be able to export onions from noon on Saturday.

Haroon Ur Rashid Haroon, an importer in Healy Land Port, said the Indian government abruptly stopped onion exports last Monday. But before that announcement, more than a hundred and a half truckloads of onions were shipped from India to merchants in the port of Healy. They will launch the onion trucks that were LCed before Sunday.

Importer Shahidul Islam Shahid said the onions have been spoiled since last Monday, as truckloads of onions got stuck at the Healy border in front of the Healy port in India. Half the onion is already spoiled. Also, even if the trucks enter the country on Saturday or Sunday, more than half of the onions will no longer be fit to eat. Traders will lose 5-6 lakh rupees per truck. He said that onions bought at 400 cost Rs 42 per kg.

Quoting Indian traders, Babu said: “Onion prices have dropped in the Indian market due to the suspension of onion exports to Bangladesh. Farmers in that country are not receiving a fair price. The fall in onion prices in different parts of the country has already created a chaotic situation in the country.

Farmers in the Bangalore, Nasik and Indore areas of India have already said that they have started exporting onions, otherwise they will not sell onions in the Indian market. Indian exporters also told Bangladeshi traders that Indian farmers had demanded the lifting of the ban on onion exports because they did not get a fair price.
