On the same day, the Income Tax Department tweeted: “In fiscal year 2020-21, Rs 4.36 crore income tax returns have been filed as of Dec 26. Hope you have also submitted your ITR. Even if you haven’t yet filed your income tax return, don’t wait any longer. File your ITR for the 2020-21 assessment year today.
In the meantime, taxpayers will face huge financial penalties if they don’t file TI returns by December 31. The fine will double this year compared to last year.
For those taxpayers whose net annual income is above Rs. After crossing the deadline but submitting the ITR file before December 31, a fine of Rs 5,000 must be paid. If you file an ITR between January 1 and March 31, you must pay a fine of Rs 10,000. This time, as the government has extended the deadline for filing the ITR until December 31, if that deadline is exceeded, a fine of up to Rs 10,000 may have to be multiplied.
