A group of legislators and politicians overthrown after a military coup in Myanmar have vowed to carry out a “revolution” against the military government.
According to a BBC report on Sunday, Aung San Suu Kyi’s party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), secretly formed a party of deputies that lost several seats. Arrest warrants have been issued against each of them.
The Pidangsu Haltao Representation Committee (CRPH) seeks international recognition as a “just government” for refusing to accept Myanmar’s military government.
A former legislator named Man Win Khaing Than introduced himself as the party’s leader.
According to the BBC, he gave his first Facebook speech on Saturday local time in secret.
“It is the darkest time in the nation and it is not too late for dawn,” said Man Win Khaing Than. Now is the time to test our citizens against dark times. ‘
He added: “All ethnic brothers who have been suffering the dictatorship for decades to build a federal democracy … this revolution is an opportunity for us to work together.”
“Despite our differences in the past, we must now work hand in hand to end the dictatorship,” he said in a speech.
However, the ruling military described the CRPH as an “illegal group” and warned that anyone who cooperated with them would be considered a traitor.
According to Reuters, a demonstration yesterday in several cities in Myanmar, 13 people were killed in police shooting.
The Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (APP) says more than 70 protesters have been killed and 2,100 detained by security forces since the February 1 coup.
