By 2030, 128 km of overpasses and subways will be built throughout the capital. Among the government’s main megaprojects, the railway metro is being built in six stages in the capital. This includes 8,569 km of flyovers and 61,172 km of metro. Construction of the MRT-6 infrastructure is currently underway in the first phase of the six-phase project entitled ‘Timely Action Plan-2030’. The time has been set for 2024 to complete the work of the first phase again. The second phase of MRT-1 is scheduled to be completed in 2026. According to MRT-5, the time to complete two routes in Dhaka North and South 6 has been set for 2027. The third and final phase of MRT-2 and 4 will be completed in 2030.

MRT-6: Megha Project Metro Rail officials say the first phase of Metro Rail MRT-6 will be launched from Uttara to Agargaon before the 50th anniversary of independence. Work on this project progresses rapidly in dealing with Corona. The infrastructure of the flying railway from Diabari in Uttara to Motijheel is visible. A viaduct has been installed on the quay to Agargaon. Construction work on the roof of the station is currently underway. Out of a total of 659 piers from Diabari to Motijheel, 598 have already been built.

Metro Rail officials said the overall progress of work from Diabari to Agargaon is 8.36 percent. The distance between Diabari in Uttara and Motijheel is 20.10 km.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company (DMTCL), a state-owned construction company, is building a subway railway from Diabari to Motijheel at a cost of Tk 2,200 crore. The development work from Diabari to Motijheel has been divided into three parts. The first phase is 11.83 km from Diabari to Agargaon, the second phase is 3,195 km from Agargaon to Karwan Bazar and the third phase is 4,992 km from Karwar Bazar to Motijheel.

According to the Metro Rail Authority, the progress of the first phase is 8.38% and the other two phases 43.46%. The overall progress is 50.40 percent. In addition, the overall equipment progress, including electric work rail cars, is 36.75 percent. Work on the first phase of the metro began on August 1, 2016. In the first phase, the likely launch date of Metro Rail from Diabari to Agargaon was set at 2020, but the pace of work slowed due to the outbreak of epidemic crown. However, work is currently progressing rapidly after overcoming the Corona crisis.

According to officials involved in the railway metro project, although the railway metro works officially began in 2016, the urbanization work of the depot was completed within the stipulated time and the depot was delivered on January 31, 2016. Work progress infrastructure development in the deposit area is 63 percent.

Development work from Agargaon to Karwan Bazar started on August 1, 2016. Construction of the station infrastructure at Farmgate is currently underway. The construction of 113 piers from Karwan Bazar to Motijheel has been completed. The total work progress is 49.07 percent. The construction of network substations in the Tongi and Maniknagar areas and the receiving substations in Uttara to provide electrical connection by metro rail has been completed.

MRT-1: Under this project, the first metro in Bangladesh will be built. In two phases, 19.82 km of metro will be built from the airport to Kamalapur and 11,289 km of flyover from Natun Bazar to Pitalganj in Rupganj. Arrangements are being made to change trains at the new market station for passengers on this route. So that Kamalapur route passengers can easily go to Purbachal route and Purbachal route passengers can easily go to Kamalapur route. The total cost of the project has been estimated at Tk 52,562 crore.

The second phase of the Northern Route from Hemayetpur to Bhatara is scheduled to be completed in 2026 with a 20.50 km metro with 13.50 km underground and 6.50 km of flyover. It will cost 41,239 million rupees. The consultant for this project has started working on August 12 of this year.

The third phase of MRT-5 from Gabtali to Dasherkandi on the 12.80 km underground southern route, 4.60 km flyover works are scheduled to be completed in 2030. The feasibility study for this project has already been completed . There have also been loan agreements with development partners. In the same phase, MRT-2 has started work to build a 24 km, one metro overpass from Gabtali to Chittagong Road. Below this, 18 km of MRT line 4 will be built passing the PPP railway line from Kamalapur to Narayanganj. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2030.

Regarding these issues, the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, said: “The work of the Metro Rail MRT-6 project is 52 percent complete. I hope to complete the work on other steps by 2030. The work is progressing fast. Although the work has been interrupted by the crown bud, it is now being compensated.
