President of the Import-Export Group of the Port of Healy Shal. Haroon Aur Rashid said: “Eleven trucks of onions caught in India have arrived in Bangladesh through this port since 3pm on Saturday. After that, the Indian exporters have told us that they will not ship onions for now. “
A total of 246 metric tons of onions arrived in 11 trucks, he said.
Haroon Aur Rashid said: “Hybrid varieties of onions are imported from India. That onion cannot be stored. Half the onion is already spoiled on the way. If you stay in the truck for a few more days, the rest will rot. After the truck, we have to take out the rotten onion. Traders will have to count losses. The country’s dollars will also be wasted. We have decided to send a letter to the exporters and all those interested again ”.
He warned that merchants would withdraw in the future if there was no guarantee of timely delivery of goods after the LC.
In addition, some onions passed through the Bhomra land port in Satkhira on Saturday.
Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of the Bhomra C&F Agents Association, said that between 25 and 30 trucks carrying onions entered the port starting at 12:30 pm on Saturday. Furthermore, more than four hundred trucks are stranded in India.
However, only trucks with late export orders can enter the country, the business leader said.
Meanwhile, no onion truck was able to enter Bangladesh through the Benapole port due to the lack of a delayed export order.
Sajedur Rahman, general secretary of Benapole C&F Agents Personnel Association, said trucks loaded with trapped onions in the Petrapole port area in India could not reach Bangladesh due to a lack of late export orders.
On Monday, when India announced a ban on onion exports, Indian traders stopped truckloads of onions heading to Bangladesh at the border. Later again, the Government of India allowed export in previously open LCs.
