Egypt’s department of tourism and archeology has recovered 100 coffins from the Sakkara necropolis cemetery, which are about 2,500 years old. This cemetery is located south of the capital, Cairo. Intact mummies were found in several of the coffins. At least 40 coffins are also gold plated. Some of the coffins are said to have gold statues inside. News – Al Jazeera.
For now, the coffins and mummies have been sent to the lab for research.
Egyptian Tourism and Archeology Minister Khaled El-Anani said the recovered coffins belonged to the Polymeck regime. Polimec’s reign was about 300 years from 320 to 330 BC. The recovered mummies and coffins will be exhibited in three museums in Cairo, the minister said.
However, the Egyptian government wants to collect all the information about these coffins and mummies before the exhibition.
Another mysterious coffin has been recovered from the Sakkara Necropolis Cemetery. However, not much was said about the coffin. They are expected to be announced later this year.
