Hane Mann, a ninth-class student at the Panchagarh government girls’ high school, has been the symbolic president of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Parishad for an hour. The schoolgirl, Plan International and National Children’s Force, a non-governmental organization for the empowerment of women, handed over power to Panchagarh President Sadar Upazila Parishad, Amirul Islam, for an hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

During this hour, the activities of the entire Upazila Parishad are carried out under his direction. The one-hour teen president made several recommendations to prevent child marriage and violence against women, including the adoption of 10 female-friendly unions and a municipality of Sadar upazila. The president of Upazila Parishad also assured to implement his recommendations.

Hane Mann, a schoolgirl who was overwhelmed by the opportunity to serve as president of upazila for an hour, said the initiative would inspire the empowerment of women at various levels, including local government. Women should be considered human beings and not just women. Only then will equal rights be guaranteed in all areas of society.

Panchagarh Sadar Upazila President Amirul Islam said that the current government believes in the empowerment of women. Our Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Spokesperson is a woman. In addition, women advance in all areas of society. This initiative aims to further strengthen the empowerment of women in local government. During her hour-long tenure, the schoolgirl made some recommendations on various topics, including women’s empowerment, violence against women, child marriage, and teasing on the eve.
