American Airlines plans to cut off most of its service from US airports to London next month due to weak epidemic demand, the carrier said on Sunday.
Cases of coronavirus have increased in both countries and authorities have imposed new sanctions to help prevent the spread of the virus, keeping in mind the demand for the most profitable and popular international route due to the epidemic.
The carrier will arrive next month in Charlotte, New York. Kennedy International Airport and will not operate flights from Chicago Ohre to London Heathrow. Customers in Chicago and New York can optionally book on American Airways, America’s trans-Atlantic partner. A spokesman said in a statement that the cargo-only flight would continue until American resumed daily passenger service from Chicago and New York and London.
“We are constantly evaluating our network to match supply and demand and have been making regular schedule adjustments since March,” the spokesperson said. “In an effort to match the low demand resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19), we continue to operate on a reduced schedule.”
Delta and United did not immediately respond to a request for comment on their plans.
Airlines, including American and British Airways, are urging officials on both sides of the Atlantic to change travel restrictions, such as banning most Europeans from entering the UK and testing quarantine requirements for Americans entering the UK through the Covid-19 test.
