Amazon will open a first-line only full-fledged food store in Brooklyn

Amazon is opening a new whole food store in Brooklyn, but it will not be open to the public.

In the first for the company, the entire Foods store will only be permanently online online, which will be taken to complete groline grocery orders for customers in the Brooklyn area, Amazon announced Tuesday. The store, which opens Tuesday, is located in the Brooklyn Industry City complex in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Borough.

“Grocery delivery is one of the fastest growing industries on Amazon,” the company said in a blog post announcing the store. “We are thrilled to increase the gross delivery of groceries. It has never been more important.”

Amazon said it has hired hundreds of new employees who will be “100 percent dedicated to facilitating grocery delivery” to the store.

The launch of the new, online-only store format is the same as Amazon, like many other retailers, has experienced a flood of demand for grocery deliveries, driven by the coronavirus epidemic. In the last quarter, Amazon said online online grocery sales tripled year-over-year in the second quarter and increased grocery delivery capacity by more than 160%.

Amazon is also a U.S. Has continued to expand its reach in the grocery industry. Earlier this month, Amazon opened the first of a new chain of its new fresh grocery store. The first store, located in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, temporarily served online-only as a “dark store” to fulfill grocery orders.

The company also oversees more than 500 whole food stores, 10 Amazon Go stores and a large format of its Go convenience stores called Go Grocery.
