Alabama’s recruiting surge in 2021 continues, this time with the addition of a four-star linebacker Kendrick Blackshire, who announced his engagement to Crimson Tide Tuesday night about LSU and Texas A&M. Blackshire, a product of Duncanville, Texas, is Commitment No. 12 to Nick Saban and company, a promise that drives Tide to be in the top 10 of the 247Sports composite team recruitment ranking.
“I feel like they will prepare me better than anyone,” Blackshire told BamaOnLine why he is committing to the Tide. “I feel like your training staff, just that, will prepare my knee for whatever I need to do in college. Just get ready for the game. That’s a very strong reason why I chose Alabama because of its training staff and Nick Saban. He is a defensive coach. They are the only ones.
Blackshire realized he wanted to commit to UA as he went out to eat one night.
“Man, I was actually in a restaurant while I got engaged,” he said. “I’ve thought about it. I was like, it’s Alabama. I’ll be honest before I thought about Alabama, I was thinking about another school in my head. But at that point I knew it was Alabama.”
The four-star linebacker called Saban to share the news.
“He was excited. He was,” Blackshire said. “There was a smile on his face. He was happy.”

“It’s real,” said Blackshire. Banks is real, really. I can call Banks at any time and he’ll talk to me about it. Banks is that man, really.

“They fly around,” he said of the tide. “They win. We do what we have to do to win. That’s it.”
Blackshire plans to take on a recruiter role for the Tide. She’s already been talking to all UA commits.
“Who can I get,” he said. “Whoever they tell me to recruit, I’m recruiting.”
At 6 ft. 2 lbs. And 245 lbs., Blackshire is ranked number 7 inside linebacker and overall player is not. 152 in the country, according to the Composite Ranking 247Sports composed by the industry.
Blackshire missed his junior season with an LCA injury. Prior to 2019, she racked up 180 tackles as a freshman and sophomore in Horn of Mesquite, Texas before moving to Duncanville.
