When Apple bought dark sky In March, it was a death sentence for Android fans of the app. Earlier this month a small respite was given, when Dark Sky co-founder Adam Grossman said the Android app work an additional month before closing on August 1. Well, that day is fast approaching, and it would seem that a new contender is trying to be Android’s preferred weather app: AccuWeather.
According to Android Police, a new beta The application has been in process for the past three months. (You know, about the time since the Dark Sky news was published.) In addition to a new user interface and much-needed redesign, Android Police notes that there appears to be a new minute-by-minute clock on the home page that shows local rainfall forecasts as well. It’s not the same as the Dark Sky hack, but it’s close enough that people desperately looking for an alternative are willing to give it a try.
The AccuWeather app has been offering its MinuteCast forecasts for a while now; however, at least on the iOS version, it doesn’t show up as prominently. Previously, it was a bar hidden under other metrics that made scrolling much easier. The redesign also includes a bottom tab navigation system, which in our lord 2020’s year is frankly surprising that AccuWeather is only doing this now. The app also includes the option to enable dark mode.
The new AccuWeather app is expected to launch today on the Google Play Store, which is a good time for AccuWeather. Part of the problem with Apple when acquiring Dark Sky is that it not only meant the death of the Android application, but also the API used by third-party applications it will also be kaput by 2022. Not a problem for iOS users. Lots of Dark Sky features are likely to hit the not-so-excellent Apple native weather app, but it leaves a considerable gap for Android users.

It is difficult to say whether AccuWeather will succeed the Dark Sky throne. Commentators on Google Play Store are gone Mixed Reviews in the beta, with many detailed complaints about the stability and location features of the beta (although that’s always a risk with any beta). An official release is likely to be more stable, although if you really hate it, there is at least one metric weather app crapton to try out.
